Semester Final Exam Part 2 and 3

Part 2

Caption Writing:
Mafia boss killed over drug dispute. Police are still finding bodies from the incident.
Monk protests deemed "life threatening". This monk demonstrates his "burning passion" for religion by lighting himself aflame in the town square.
8-ton Rhino transported to the San Antonio Zoo. The Rhino is expected to be on exhibit on Tuesday.

Part 3

Photo Composition:

This picture uses the rule of thirds to draw attention to the subject. With nothing to distract the viewer from the subject , this effect was used very nicely.
This picture uses a unique view-point, which makes it appear to the viewer that Barack Obama is actually holding the sun in his hands.
This image uses an` effect called cropping, to blur the background, create clarity and to focus our attention to the subject at hand, the Royal Soldier.
This interesting image uses depth to simulate the sense of depth perception as if the viewer were actually in the picture. By including objects in the foreground, middle ground and background, we achieve this beautiful eye-popping effect.

Extra Credit:

1. Explain what happened to the man that was killed by the subway and how the photographer was able to take the photo.
The man was pushed onto the tracks and the photographer just stood there to take the photo.

2. Why did the photographer say he took the photo?
To alert the train driver.

3. Do you think the photographer should have taken the photo?
No.

4. Do you think the photographer did the best thing he could have done in this situation? Why or why not?
No, because he could have saved that man's life, instead of capturing the moment of his death.

5. Do you agree or disagree with the decision to run the photo on the front page of the New York Post? Explain why or why not.
Yes, so the photo would have not have been taken for no reason.

6. What is more important to a photojournalist, capturing images of life as it happens or stopping bad things from happening? Why or why not?
Stopping bad things from happening, the human nature to preserve life.

7. Do you think it is ever ethically acceptable for a photographer to involve himself/herself in a situation that he or she photographs? Explain why or why not.
Yes, if the situation is life-threatening.

8. Should photojournalists always avoid influencing events as they happen? Explain your answer.
No, again if the situation is life-threatening, he should intervene.

9. After reading the responses from the professional photographers, what stands out as the most appropriate response for a photographer to this situation.
If possible, save someone's life instead of trying to capture a picture of death, moments before happening.

Chia Pet

A cool Chia Pet would be a DJ, with turntables and a mixer which would grow into a crowd around him and him being on the top of the "Chia world"

Smartphone App

App:

If I could create a smartphone app, it would be able to respond accurately to voice commands, similar to Siri, except that the app would be able to do everything you ask and nothing you don't.
This app would be focused mostly on accuracy and efficiently so that you commands are obeyed instantaneously.

Cost: $1.99

Reason: A lot of resources must go into research & development, therefore, there must be funds and an incentive.

Stress: Best Advice Ever

The way I deal with stress is by looking for a distraction, which in my case would be music production. Other things that I might try:

  • Pool Table Construction
  • Repairing a laptop
  • Woodworking

2nd Six Weeks

What I want out of this six weeks is to improve my life by making changes to my living space, routine, habits, etc. Also, I want to make up for anything I may have forgotten, or anything that I've done wrong.

Avoiding Mergers

I chose this picture because of how there are no people "cut in half" by being halfway out of the photo and the overall "togetherness" of the picture.

Framing

I chose this picture because of the angle that the two skyscrapers are shown and the atmosphere in the sky in the background.

Balance

I chose this picture because of how spread out the collapsing building was from the woman riding the bicycle.

Lines

I chose this picture because of the lines made by the pillars on the side of the skyscraper.

Rule of Thirds

I chose this picture because of where the Fire Department "golf cart" is parked at, next to the ambulance in the foreground.

Simplicity

I chose this picture because of how the building is simply burning against the blue sky in the background.

My Monster Meal

If I made a monster sandwich, I would first go to Chick-fil-a and get every single sandwich there, then to TGI Fridays, for some more meat, and gather some materials to create a giant bun, as well as buying pounds of lettuce, condiments, fries and pizzas.
